Kayla Renaud (she/her or they/them) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida with an office for private practice in the heart of Downtown Lakeland. Kayla is also happy to see clients throughout Florida, via TeleHealth. Her practice serves members of the LGBTQIAPK+ community (adolescents and adults), those practicing consensual non-monogamy (18+), and those who practice BDSM/kink (18+). Her primary areas of interest include gender-affirming care, trauma, shame, anxiety, change-of-life issues and additional experience and expertise in perinatal and postnatal parental mental health for all genders.
Kayla has a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida, for which she received an additional certification in Marriage and Family Therapy. Kayla is licensed in Mental Health in the State of Florida and is a member of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) and SAIGE (Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender Expansive Identities). Hormone therapy letters are only written for individuals 14+ and surgery letters are only written for individuals 16+, with support and education included for individuals and their caregivers. This is provided for clients under the care of Voyage Counseling and after careful exploration and consultation with the client. In addition, our clients also benefit from a network of medical and relevant service professionals to aid in one’s journey.
Safe Space
An Institute of Medicine (IOM) report surveyed information on the health of LGBT individuals, including youth. In that report, it was found that “the disparities in both mental and physical health that are seen between LGBT and heterosexual and non-gender-variant youth are influenced largely by their experiences of stigma and discrimination during the development of their sexual orientation and gender identity.” Amongst the contributing factors are disproportionately high rates of physical and emotional bias and violence; rejection by families and peers; and inadequate support in schools, employment, and communities because of their sexual orientation and gender identity/expression.As a mental health care provider, I am ethically bound to my clients and the community at large; my practice is a Safe Space. This means that there is no conversion therapy or invalidation of any kind. My general practice and physical office both hold space for genuine expression and exploration of self and authentic human growth. As a practitioner, I am only interested in evidence-based and ethically sound practice, and will not be utilized by family/friends/caregivers/spouses of individuals interested in challenging the identity of another.
Additionally, I am also a Safe Space for those with people in their lives who identify as part of the community and want to process, learn and grow in their relationship without causing harm.
